Mary, Mother of God, your Heart is a counterpart of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. His Heart is a loving Heart, and that love is symbolized by the flames which St. Margaret Mary saw coming forth from it. Your heart is also the most affectionate of hearts after that of Jesus. You love us as a mother loves her children. Your eyes ever watch over us; your ears ever listen to our cries; your hands are ever extended over us to help us and impart heavenly gifts to us; above all, your heart is full of tenderness to care for us. There the poor find aid; the sick and needy, remedy; the afflicted, consolation; the doubting, counsel; and the distressed, help. All mankind may find a place in your heart as your children, if they only choose to listen to your loving appeal. Your heart is a refuge for sinners, for you are the Mother of Mercy, who has never been known to turn away anyone who came to seek your aid.
O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, grant that I may serve You with lively faith, firm hope, and burning love.
The Catholic Social Services (CSS) Clinical Program is a comprehensive, community-based psychological service delivery system. The CSS Clinical Program was designed and implemented through Catholic Social Service in 1995 to serve individuals throughout the Diocese of Lincoln, Nebraska. As a program within Catholic Social Services, it shares in the mission of the Catholic Church.
To effectively meet the needs of the Diocese of Lincoln, CSS operates the Immaculate Heart of Mary Counseling Center in Lincoln with an outreach to parishes throughout the diocese.
Our staff includes both doctoral level and masters level clinicians dedicated to the development, protection, and preservation of the Catholic Culture. This is accomplished within a mental health context focusing on the spiritual, psychological, and physical needs of our clients, their families, and the community.
The Immaculate Heart of Mary Counseling Center provides educational and consultative services to all parish communities, and facilitates information sharing across the 24,000 square mile region. Services provided by the Clinical Program address the general well being of the Catholic Community as well as individuals within every age group. A psychological service continuum was designed to address the broad spectrum of needs requested by the constituencies within the diocese. This continuum involves a full range of psychological services, from direct clinical services (e.g., assessment, intervention with individuals, couples, and families) to indirect clinical services aimed at prevention and parish support (e.g., publications, mailings, public speaking, consultation).
Direct Clinical Services
Counseling Services. Counseling services address a wide range of personal concerns and integrate counseling with a traditional Catholic anthropology. With client consent, parish priests, educational personnel, physicians, and other significant professionals work collaboratively with clients and psychologists or counselors in order to provide integrated counseling interventions.
Psychological and Academic Assessment. The Immaculate Heart of Mary Counseling Center provides a variety of psychological and academic assessment services. Psycho-educational assessment is available through the Catholic schools or the Immaculate Heart of Mary Counseling Center. In addition, psychological evaluation is provided for the general public as well as candidates to seminaries and religious orders.
Crisis Response Team. The Crisis Response Team represents a joint effort with the Diocesan Education Office and Family Life Office to provide crisis counseling to parochial schools and parishes during the first 24 to 72 hours following a traumatic event.
Support Groups. The Immaculate Heart of Mary Counseling Center offers a variety of support groups. As examples, clinicians provide assistance for individuals of all ages who have suffered the death of someone close to them, and has an ongoing support group for those individuals dealing with same sex attraction. The Immaculate Heart of Mary Counseling Center also provides support groups as needed for marriage enrichment, and help for individuals suffering from depression and anxiety.
Crisis Pregnancy. Clinicians from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Counseling Center assist individuals and their families experiencing an unplanned pregnancy in exploring alternatives available to them, including parenting and adoption.
24-Hour On-Call System. In order to facilitate accessibility to emergency counseling services throughout the diocese, a 24-hour on-call system is available. The emergency number is (402) 540-5536 or (800) 961-6277.
Indirect Clinical Services Delivery
In addition to direct services, the CSS clinical staff provides indirect services by working with other professionals and caregivers who, in turn, provide assistance to the client.
Consultation. The Immaculate Heart of Mary Counseling Center clinical staff members routinely respond to requests for consultation from clergy, religious, school personnel and other Catholic organizations. The assistance offered includes diagnosing clinical problems, resources for persons in their community, or guidance in addressing organizational needs.
Public Speaking/Training Workshops. The Immaculate Heart of Mary Counseling Center personnel frequently speak to groups about topics including parenting skills, helping teens with sexual and abortion-related issues, suicide prevention, coping with the death of a student, friend, or family member, and building strong families. Clinical personnel conduct training for individuals by providing specific services within their parish and school communities. Workshop topics focus on bereavement ministry, parent training, substance abuse awareness, conflict management, and special education topics. Organizational services assist parishes, parochial schools, medical associations, and service groups (e.g., soup kitchen) in the development of mission statements, core values, or strategic plans.
