Our Lady of Sorrows

An educational support developed to assist Catholic families in the grief process

The loss of someone we love is one of life’s most painful events, filled with sadness, anger, physical pain, loneliness and despair. It can create feelings of disappointment, hopelessness, and helplessness.

Grief experienced by such a tragic loss is a natural response, but one that is poorly understood. The griever may feel isolated and alone.
The pain is like an open wound which needs to heal. Healing Hearts was developed to meet the needs of those bereaved within the Catholic Community.

The Healing Hearts program:

  1. Provides a safe, loving and spiritual atmosphere in which to recover. It is for those enduring that painful, but normal process of grief
  2. Offers a series of six sessions in which the participant moves through the step-by-step program towards recovery
  3. Encourages continuation of the group to form support and to cover various other topics dealing with grief and recovery

Healing Hearts deals with such issues as:

  1. Grief Process
  2. Christian Perspective on Suffering
  3. Effects of Grief on Relationships
  4. Comfort from Scripture
  5. Restoring Balance

Speakers will discuss these and other important topics. A small group discussion format will encourage sharing. The series will conclude with a Healing Mass.

Prayer To Our Mother of Sorrows

Hallowed Mother, do this favor: Those Wounds that gored my Savior, deeply on my heart engrave. Mine it be, Christ's throes in sharing. Mine it be, his anguish bearing. These, his wounds, to keep in mind. From the flame of hell unending, be thou, Virgin, me defending, in that dreadful reckoning day! When in death my eyes are closing, open them, Lord, to see reposing, Victory's crown in Mary's hand. When my frame by death is broken, and my doom by thee is spoken, be it, Lord, the better land. Amen.

I beseech you, O Lord Jesus Christ,  that the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose most holy soul was pierced in the hour of your Passion by the sword of sorrow, may intercede for us with your mercy now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
