The mission of Project Rachel is to share the Good News of hope, healing and reconciliation with anyone affected by abortion so that all may live fully as children of God.

Project Rachel is the post-abortion healing ministry of the Catholic Church. It was founded in 1984 in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee by Vicki Thorn. Project Rachel is an outreach of the Catholic Church, but it is open to anyone who is struggling after an abortion loss. It is able to help women and men; parents, grandparents, siblings, friends and others whose lives have been impacted by an abortion loss.

Project Rachel was named for the Old Testament figure who mourned the loss of her children (Jeremiah 31 15-17):
“In Ramah is heard the sound of mourning and bitter weeping! Rachel mourns her children, she refuses to be consoled. Her children are no more. Thus says the Lord: Cease your cries of mourning. Wipe the tears from your eyes. The sorrow you have shown will have its reward. There is hope for your future.”

Catholic Social Services Clinical Program provides 24-hour telephone support for Project Rachel. All of our staff members at CSS are specially trained to provide emotional and psychological support to women and men affected by abortion. In addition to telephone support, our clinicians are available to provide ongoing counseling services to men and women considering abortion or in need of healing from the effects of abortion.

Prayer Header

Saint Pedro God our Father, we praise and adore You for the infinite mercy poured out for us in Christ Jesus, Your son. Make us ever mindful of Your mercy toward us, that we may be instruments of mercy toward those whose lives are broken by the sin of abortion. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit and teach us to pray for them with loving fidelity. Draw them to Yourself, Father. Free them and restore them to life in Your Son. Welcome them into joyous communion with You in the Church, His Body. We entrust our prayers to Mary, Mother of Mercy and refuge of sinners. May her unfailing intercession draw us ever closer to Jesus, our only Savior and Lord, in whose name we pray. Amen
