Food Pantry

Prayer Header

Saint PedroPatron of the St. Francis Food Pantry Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

Last year we distributed over 77,000 pounds of food with an estimated value of over $150,000. Over 1500 families and 5,000 individuals were served through our St. Francis Food Pantry.

In 2006 Catholic Social Services started the St. Andrew Food Distribution program in partnership with the Food Bank of Lincoln. Food is taken to four rural communities in Southeast Nebraska in an effort to reach Christ’s poor in those communities. In the first three months of this program we have served over 400 individuals.

The St. Anthony Food Pantry in Hastings provides a week’s worth of groceries for each family member in need.   Emergency Food pantries are available for individuals or families in a crisis.  The Food pantry is stocked from food and monetary donations from parishes, school and organizations food drives.  An expansion of the St. Anthony Food Pantry is planned for the Spring of 2007 to better serve those who come to us for help.

The Open Table Sack Lunch Program in Hastings provides  sack lunches to anyone in need.  Lunches are distributed daily by Catholic Social Services at our offices at 515 W. 3rd St.  This program to feed the hungry is a collaborative effort of more than 20 agencies, organizations and churches in the Hastings area.  Individuals or groups interested in learning more about the program or who want to help should call 402-463-2112.
